Where is my money best spent and wasted in a store remodel?

Q: "I have a 10-year old store. Where's my money best spent and worst spent?"

A: Your money should all be spent on customer focus. Anything that's going to reduce friction in your store is great.

That would include new POS system so you can integrate your online with your physical in one system, a better CRM system so you know more about your customers, even better wi-fi if you rely on pads and tablets. They make the customer experience better.

And any way you can make an old store look new is absolutely the way to do it. Paint doesn't cost you anything. You could repaint something every single week. You could buy new fixtures or even just one new fixture.

Moving walls and adding lights can be great too but they require more planning and may have some hidden costs.

What's the worst way? Putting in a new office chair, or a break room - things for you to make work better for you. A nice comfy chair behind the counter for your cashiers, no.

    It's all about customers.
