When Should Christmas Decorations Go Up On the Outside of Your Store?

Q: When should Christmas decorations go up on the outside of your store?

A: The reality is a lot of people are buying their holiday gifts in October and November. So maybe you're not going put everything out but I would certainly have at least one window that was holiday themed by Nov. 1.

I would certainly think by the 20th, you are ready to go at the latest. But Thanksgiving is late this year - the 29th - so there will be the fewest days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. You want everyone to think of you for their gifts earlier than later.

When I used to work in apparel, I would have Thanksgiving with my family and then I would go to the store and me and some of the crew would decorate the store. It was really fun for us. But you know what? I was 20 years old then, and it was easier to do that then.

At some point, it's like, "Why am I doing this?" Well, you can't do it when you're open maybe, but certainly, you could do an event the week before with your crew and pizza and have some fun with it.
