    Is there a formula to figure out how many people who say they’re coming to an event will actually show up?

    Q:"Do you have any formulas on how to calculate people saying they're coming to an event versus actually showing up? Our town's planning a big Cocoa Crawl, and the response has been amazing on Facebook. We're trying to find out how many to actually expect. Any ideas?"

    A: It's always a crapshoot with free events. I tend to find that I cut it by at least a third, but again, I don't know what your publicity is.

    A good way to always do that is to have some nominal way that they have to register. If it's one dollar or it's five dollars, you give them five dollars back or something. That way, you have a real count."
