How to Determine Merchandise Stock Rotation?

Q: "How does one determine the stock rotation improvement that's realistically possible?"

A: Very simply, date your merchandise. At the most basic gift store, you can take a color tag and put it on the bottom of your merchandise so you know all the red ones were from before July 2017. More sophisticated models are in your POS.

When you know you have older stock, you push that to the front of the shelf and fill from behind. From there you can look at your merchandise turn which should be no less than 2.

Knowing your stock turnover will help you buy just enough to keep you shelves full, but not enough to have months or years of old merchandise. Remember, old merchandise is like old milk, it spoils and doesn't get better with age.
