I returned to work the very next day after your daylong session. It did feel awkward at first, but I could feel that they were more comfortable with this new way. The second family I said “good morning” to started to ask me questions about their situation. They told me upfront that they were comparison-shopping and their next stop was Simple Floors, our biggest competitor here. So, instead of trashing Simple Floors, I told our customer that we offer real wood mouldings that perfectly match the floors, where other stores only offer laminate mouldings. They took a sample and I said good-bye to them. 15 minutes later the same couple is back at the counter ready to place an order. I built up such a good trust in this family that when I told him that his mouldings would cost another $300 or to put it in a better way 15% of the transaction, he said “wow I wasn’t expecting it to be that much…but you are the flooring expert and you know best”.
